Tom Thompson, Ed.D.
, is a therapist specializing in the challenges faced by bariatric patients. His role is to help patients with the psychological and emotional issues as they make the important lifestyle transitions that make bariatric surgery successful.
Dr. Thompson received his undergraduate degree from the University of California in Davis, CA, and was awarded his doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Northern Colorado, in Greeley, CO. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and is President-elect of the North Carolina Psychology Association Division of Professional Practice. Dr. Thompson has extensive experience in providing a full range of psychological services to patients of all ages. His younger patients include children with learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, mood and behavioral problems. He has been a consultant with the Guilford County School System and local private schools on the educational and emotional needs of students, and served as Child Mental Health Examiner for the University of North Carolina Medical School. Dr. Thompson’s work with his adult patients includes psychological testing and counseling for problems with depression and anxiety related to health, vocational and family problems. He has completed specialized training in marital therapy.
