Meet Our Staff
Our philosophy of care is a patient-focused, personal approach combined with communication and individualized surgical expertise. As a patient, you are part of our team and it is important you know what to expect before, during and after surgery.Our patients continue to be a part of our community of care and help us further our mission of providing the best care for those suffering from cardiovascular disease. Our multidisciplinary team includes three cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons, a physician’s assistant and a specially trained certified cardiac nurse. Together, our cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons have more than 50 years of experience.
Stephen A. Mills, MD FACS - Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon
Dr. Mills is board certified in thoracic surgery and has been practicing his specialty for more than 25 years. Dr. Mills earned his medical degree from McGill University in Canada and completed his internship and residency at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina. Dr. Mills is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is listed in “Best Doctors in America” from 2002 to present. Specializing in coronary bypass, valve repair and replacement, Dr. Mills has been treating cardiac patients in the Piedmont Triad region with consistently successful outcomes since 1980.
James J. Morris, MD FACS - Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon
Dr. Morris joined UNC Cardiothoracic Surgery at High Point in 2013. He is board certified in thoracic surgery and has been practicing his specialty for more than 23 years. Dr. Morris is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is credentialed in thoracic endovascular procedures. A native of North Carolina, Dr. Morris earned his medical degree from Duke University in North Carolina where he also completed his specialized training in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. Dr. Morris also holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Medical Management and served as an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Benjamin Haithcock, MD FACS FCC - Thoracic Surgeon
Dr. Haithcock joined UNC Cardiothoracic Surgery at High Point in 2013. He is board certified in thoracic surgery and has been practicing his specialty for over seven years. Dr. Haithcock earned his medical degree from Michigan State University and completed his cardiothoracic surgery residency from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Named a Top Doctor by US News & World Report in 2012, Dr. Haithcock focuses on thoracic oncology including cancer of lung and esophagus, heart and lung transplantation, minimally invasive thoracic surgery, lung and esophageal surgery and cardiac surgery. Dr. Haithcock is also the Assistant Professor of Surgery and Anesthesiology; Surgical Director, UNC Lung Transplant Program; and Director, Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency at UNC Chapel Hill.
Myron Roddenberry, PA-C
Myron Roddenberry is a highly specialized Physicians Assistant. He participates in all aspects of surgery and perioperative care for our cardiac and thoracic surgery patients.
Myron joined the High Point Regional team in 1993 and has more than 20 years of experience working with our cardiovascular and thoracic team.
Barbara Carr, RN, CCRN, CNOR, CRNFA
Barbara Carr is a Registered Nurse specially trained and certified in critical care, certified as an operating room nurse, and as a registered nurse first assistant. Barbara’s role is to assist in surgery and in pre-op and post-op patient care. Barbara has worked at High Point Regional since 1982, and has been in her current role for this practice for more than 20 years.
Renee Valentine - Administrative Assistant
Renee Valentine has over 20 years of experience. She specializes in medical office management unique to cardiothoracic surgery and works closely with each of our physicians.
