Behavioral Health

Since 1990, behavioral health assessment, inpatient and outpatient treatment programs for chemical dependency and psychiatric conditions have been provided to Piedmont Triad communities at High Point Medical Center.

The Smith Psychiatric Center offers inpatient services including: psychiatric crisis stabilization and/or detoxification from alcohol or other drugs.

Our Behavioral Assessment Center is located in the Emergency Center at High Point Medical Center. The center offers a confidential assessment for psychiatric or chemical dependency conditions 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This confidential, community service serves as a gateway to appropriate patient care. Masters level clinicians provide clinical assessments to determine the appropriate treatment for the patient's identified needs.

Outpatient services are provided at Behavioral Health - Emerywood. These include: psychiatric evaluation, medication management and individual therapy services.

We also have many chemical dependency services including an inpatient program which offers 24-hour treatment for detoxification and crisis stabilization along with individual and group counseling programs based on each individual's need.

Individuals referred to our behavioral health services can count on experienced clinical staff to design flexible, cost-effective treatment plans to meet their personal needs. A prompt, thorough diagnosis ensures patients get an early start on the work they need to do in the most appropriate, least restrictive setting.

And, at each step of treatment, our staff coordinates each patient's care with the referring professionals, family, employers, insurers, or managed care companies -- allowing patients to concentrate on one thing -- getting better.

Addiction Services

Patients who want to recover from an addiction need a treatment program that works. The High Point Medical Center views addiction seriously–as a progressive, chronic illness that can be fatal if not treated. Patient recovery begins with medically supervised drug and/or alcohol cessation accompanied by a comprehensive treatment plan that emphasizes relapse prevention and aftercare planning.

Our doctors and nurses place significant emphasis on helping patients learn to identify relapse triggers and develop strategies to overcome their addiction. Treatment plans that address the relapse process including changes in behaviors that caused the relapse and teaching new coping skills can help the patient to establish a solid recovery foundation.

To facilitate a referral, call 336-781-4035 any time of day or night. If necessary, a face-to-face assessment will be arranged immediately.
